( Chapter 24 - The Mysterious Mister M )

Novels are always better when you add in a mysterious stranger. Time to further along the Janice plotline. It is a lot more fun to write than the other ones. Probably because there is actually something to write about.

This chapter also marks a new first: dialogue. Yes, I know what you are thinking. You are thinking "Franz, wtf? You don't do dialogue," and yes, you are very much correct in that statement. But sometimes, just rarely, things can't be solve with action scenes, or totally awesome rock music battles. Sometimes characters just have to talk to one another.

Finally time to wrap up the Predator line. It was good a ten thousand words or so, even if not particularly interesting.

Ladies, gentlemen, please. If I could just be serious for a moment I WOULD BE A BETTER WRITER! Ha ha, no.

Seriously, folks, seriously. This is a pretty long chapter. It also doesn't have any jokes. It also doesn't have any of the characters that have featured in the novel so far. But I am sure it will all tie in together. Somehow.

Errr... yeah.

For all of you "mixed tense" lovers, this chapter is probably for you. I would say probably, because as you know I am "tense deaf" and do not notice the differences between tenses when I am writing. So hey, maybe it changes tense mid-sentence, maybe it doesn't. I don't know.

Also, 37,000 words is a good place to be. It's got a "almost there" feel to it. Hopefully I can get another 5,000 tomorrow and waltz past the finish line during the week.

I'm back and just as lame as ever.

When the challenge of penguins came up this year I knew I would need to make a considered evaluation of the matter. I note that some had chosen a subtle expression of the concept. A tuxedo here or there. A man with a middle initial of P. An orgy of nuns. I have also decided that the subtle approach is the best. So now, at around the 32k mark, the entirety of humanity has been defeated by the entirety of penguinity.

I win. I AM THE MOST SUBTLE OF ALL YOU FUCKERS!!!!!

Poop. I am quite far behind.

The internal editor is well and truly off. This chapter really sucks!

I think I will be wrapping up the whole Predator timeline pretty shortly. But then I will need to think up something to do next.

( Chapter 19 - The pencil pushing workout )

Professor Mononocle is a man with big ideas. Like getting a yacht for his private space station. He does not have time to think about "details." He just wants you to get it done. Also, brie is delicious.

From his point of reference he is the centre of the universe. As you will find out that make it difficult to write things like "he goes there". Really it should be "there comes to him". It gets quite confusing to write an atmospheric re-entry when from his point of view the Earth is approaching him.

Some writers will not sleep until every single part of their universe is unique in every possible way. Clearly, I am not one of those people.

mrben was quite impressed with my word count yesterday. Then he actually read some of this and he was most unamused.

Oh well. At least I managed to get Facebook into the novel.

I've been a bit behind in the word count. Work has been like, "blah!" and I have been all "aah!" and stuff.

Let me make it up to you by writing 1667 words that advance the novel in absolutely no way.

Terrible day at work. I spent almost the entire day typing and by the time I got home my hands had fallen off.

Fortunately I had a spare pair in the cupboard. I managed to get this chapter done in about an hour. For some reason insanity and mayhem are quite inspiring.

( Chapter 14 - Time Team day two, this time it is bizarre )

technical writing... all day... must.... do.... nano!.... hands about to... fall... off!

I'm finding it fairly difficult to keep the words going, so the quality has been lowered somewhat. Behold my lastest atrocity. Joseph, Lady Buxom and Professor Mononocle hunt down the submarine that has stolen all of the lolcats. Not much happens in the chapter, but there was potential for badger carnage.
